Happy FIRST Birthday!

Kaelyn's first birthday didn't exactly go as planned, and after having a baby in our life for a year now, Steve and I have learned that not everything goes as planned any more.  4 days before Kaelyn's big birthday celebration in Portland, Kaelyn starting coming down with a bad stomach bug.  I will spare the details.  But the morning of Kaelyn's party she woke up with throw up in her crib, a rash on her face from sleeping in her throw up, blood shot eyes, and a fever.  After some discussion, we decided to let everyone know about Kaelyn's sickness, but that the party would still go on!  Kaelyn was a trooper - in her PJ's, we sang her happy birthday, and she opened her presents and even gave us a few claps.  She also pushed her new shopping cart around the room 1 time.  Kaelyn couldn't keep anything down that day, including throwing up on me in the middle of the party.  We gave her a bath after that and I couldn't help but think we are suppose to be giving her a bath during her birthday party for getting cake and frosting off of her.  But here we were giving her a bath to get the throw up off.   Unfortunately, her birthday didn't end there.  Kaelyn kept throwing up into the evening that we were worried about dehydration, so at 9:00 that night we took her into the ER.  They gave her an anti-nausea medicine and we slowly tried giving her some fluids again and we were on our way home.  What a day!  We felt so bad for our poor little birthday girl.

We couldn't have made it through this memorable day without the help of Steve's parents for hosting the party and escorting us to the ER that night.  And my parents who flew in from California, helped with the party and cleaned a lot of throw up off our clothes - what fun!  Kaelyn has slowly started getting back to her old self.  I decided that since she didn't get a cupcake at her birthday party, than she can help celebrate my birthday (which is exactly a month after her's) and have some cake with me.

I've included some pictures from her party, and just days before getting sick playing at the play gym, and playing in her kitchen.  There are also a few from our trip to Arizona for Steve's cousin's wedding.

First Christmas!

Kaelyn celebrated her first christmas in Cloverdale with Grandpa and Grammie Lile.  We had a great visit with lots of trips to the park to ride the swings.  Kaelyn turns 1, yes ONE YEAR OLD, in a week, so we started the celebration in Cali.  The celebrating continued with another Xmas and pre-birthday back in Portland.   Her real birthday party will be coming up in a couple weeks....more pics to come!
