First Road Trip

Kaelyn's first big trip away from home was a great success. We stayed 2 nights (Friday/Saturday) at the Cloverdale Bed & Breakfast (a.k.a. Grandparents house), which included breakfast, lunch, dinner, and childcare! Yeah! At night Polly and Gene took Kaelyn, while we caught up on some much needed sleep. We had a some rough nights with Kaelyn the previous week, but at grandma and grandpa's house she was a perfect angel, sleeping 5-6 hour blocks between feedings. Kaelyn was showing off because she wants to get invited back.

Kaelyn met her Great Grandpa Vern for the first time, as well as uncles, aunts and more family friends. We caught some of her cute little smirks and smiles on camera. Then we went to the Citrus Fair parade, which Kaelyn slept through.

On our way back home we stopped in San Francisco to meet up with Dave & Sandy Nathman at their hotel. Parking was crazy as usual in the city, especially since it was Chinesse New Year and we were right by China town. Kaelyn needed to be fed so Amy nursed her in the car... Then Kaelyn had a blowout, so I changed her in the car... 30 minutes later we were ready to meet Dave & Sandy. We've found out that going anywhere with a baby is always a huge production.

It was a such a fun weekend (Kaelyn loved all the attention), and we look forward to our next big trip!

Happy Birthday!

It's Kaelyn's 1 month Birthday, and Amy's 28th! We're celebrating by taking the girls out to dinner at a restaurant just down the block. Kaelyn has made a lot of progress in her first month of life. She is now tracking things, watching and looking closely at the world around her. She is also smiling, cooing, and sitting up in her Bumbo (all that tummy time is paying off!). Enjoy the video!

Day at the Beach

We took advantage of another beautiful weekend and took Kaelyn to the beach! We headed over to Capitola beach, by Santa Cruz, and met up with our good friends Natalie and Dan. We had a little picnic lunch and soaked up some rays (except Kaelyn who kept her delicate skin covered up). Like most outings we take, Kaelyn was asleep for most of the time at the beach, but we think she had a good time.

The trip would not have been complete with not one, but two diaper blowouts. It's almost become a daily ritual. Kaelyn is blowing through the diapers and her cute clothes as it's almost impossible to get the poop stains out. I cannot believe the amount of laundry we are doing these days! Even her car seat and sometimes a visiting guest (sorry Allison!) gets leaked on in the process. At first we associated it to her wearing too small of diapers, so we moved her up to Size 1 diapers. But now she has even found a way to leak out of those. Which leads us to another name we use a lot around here - Blowout City!

Crazy Town

We just want to clear the air and drop a little reality check blog post about little miss Kaelyn and her not so perfect 'crazy town.' Crazy Town is a term that we've given Kaelyn when she goes into a fit of crying, legs pumping, arms flying and head shaking. It's been getting progressively worse the last few nights, and I was up for 3 hours last night trying to get her to calm down and fall asleep, which included a blowout diaper/outfit change. We try many techniques to help calm our crazy town, from swaddling, to shushing, to swinging, rocking, singing/music and sucking. I eventually got her to fall asleep around 1:30 am, using white noise from the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD, which if you've ever heard it, it is a crazy loud and annoying noise, that sounds like the engine room of a submarine. The pacifier also helps calm our crazy town girl, but the problem is once the pacifier falls out, crazy town is back! After getting her to sleep around 1:30 am, she promptly awoke at 2:00 am, since she was hungry again. After the 2:00 am feeding, we had to get her to fall asleep again. Totally exhausted from it all, we just let her sleep with us. Cosleeping seems to have a calming effect or she already has figured out how to get her way:)

The next day, Kaelyn returns to her sweet adorable self, and we quickly forget about the long hard night...
